The story behind Holland's
name
While attending
a rehearsal dinner for a bride and groom of ours, the guests went
around the tables to introduce themselves. One couple introduced
themselves and their baby—her name was Holland. We just turned
to each other and said, just about at the same time, "I like that
name!" Since Chad is 100% Dutch and grew up in Holland, Michigan,
we had been searching for a Dutch name that we both liked. So, here it
was.
Going into the
delivery, we had two girl names and one boy name picked out. Once she
was born, all of the nurses kept saying to us how beautiful she
was—but we hadn't yet named her. We decided that this beautiful
little girl needed a beautiful name. While Deb was in recovery from
her c-section, she was talking with her recovery nurses about her
family, mainly the four grandchildren. When she got to the fourth, the
name "Holland" automatically flowed from Deb's mouth. She
called Chad into the recovery room and said, "It's got to be
Holland." And so it was.
Her middle name,
Marie, was the name of Deb's maternal grandmother.
